The early years
Which Green Bay company sponsored the Packers in their first two seasons?
Answer: The Indian Packing Company. Curly Lambeau worked there as a shipping clerk, and the company paid for the team’s first uniforms and let it practice on its grounds.
Why did the Packers lose their NFL franchise after the 1921 season?
Answer: They used college players under assumed names in a non-league game against Racine. The league voted Green Bay out in January 1922 and let the team back in that June.
How many games did the 1929 Packers lose on the way to their first NFL title?
Answer: None. They went 12-0-1, the only undefeated season in team history, and went on to win the next two titles as well, becoming the first team with three in a row.
Where was the 1936 NFL Championship Game played, even though the Boston Redskins were the home team?
Answer: The Polo Grounds in New York City. Ticket sales in Boston were low, so the game moved, and the Packers won 21-6.
Who scored both Packers touchdowns in the 1944 NFL Championship Game?
Answer: Ted Fritsch. His one-yard run and a 28-yard catch from Irv Comp beat the Giants 14-7 at the Polo Grounds for the Packers’ sixth league title.
The Lombardi era
Vince Lombardi lost only one playoff game as the Packers coach. Who beat him?
Answer: The Philadelphia Eagles, 17-13 in the 1960 NFL Championship Game. Eagles linebacker Chuck Bednarik tackled Jim Taylor short of the end zone as time ran out.
Who won a Corvette as the MVP of the 1962 NFL Championship Game?
Answer: Linebacker Ray Nitschke. Sport magazine gave him the car after the Packers beat the Giants 16-7 at Yankee Stadium.
Which Detroit Lions star was suspended along with Paul Hornung in 1963?
Answer: Defensive tackle Alex Karras. Commissioner Pete Rozelle suspended both men indefinitely for betting on NFL games, and Hornung missed the 1963 season.
When did the Super Bowl trophy get Vince Lombardi’s name?
Answer: In 1970, after Lombardi died that September. The Packers received the unnamed trophy after Super Bowl I, and it was first handed out as the Vince Lombardi Trophy after Super Bowl V.
Which team did Lombardi coach after he left Green Bay, and what was its record in 1969?
Answer: The Washington Redskins, who went 7-5-2, their first winning record since 1955. Lombardi died the following September.
The lean years
How many draft picks did the Packers give up for quarterback John Hadl in 1974?
Answer: Five: first and second-round picks in 1975 and 1976, plus a third-round pick in 1975. Hadl was 34, and Packers history calls the trade a disaster.
What name did the Packers’ 14-13 win over the Bears in 1989 earn?
Answer: The Instant Replay Game. Don Majkowski was flagged for crossing the line of scrimmage on his fourth-down pass to Sterling Sharpe, the replay official reversed the call, and the touchdown stood.
Which general manager hired Mike Holmgren and traded for Brett Favre?
Answer: Ron Wolf, who joined the Packers in 1991. He came from the New York Jets, where he was director of player personnel.
The Favre and Rodgers years
How many yards did Brett Favre throw for on Monday night, December 22, 2003, the day after his father died?
Answer: 399 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-7 win at Oakland. He played the game a little more than 24 hours after his father’s death.
How long was Aaron Rodgers’ Hail Mary against the Lions in 2015, and who caught it?
Answer: 61 yards to Richard Rodgers on the final play, a 27-23 win. The play came on an untimed down after Detroit was flagged for grabbing Aaron Rodgers’ facemask.
How many interceptions did Charles Woodson return for touchdowns in 2009, when he was named AP Defensive Player of the Year?
Answer: Three. He also led the NFL with nine interceptions that season.
What was the final score of the 2014 season playoff game in which Dez Bryant’s catch was overturned?
Answer: The Packers beat the Cowboys 26-21 in the divisional round. Bryant’s 31-yard catch on fourth-and-2 was ruled incomplete on review because the ball came loose when he hit the ground.
Lambeau Field and home games
For 62 years, the Packers played part of their home schedule in which other Wisconsin city?
Answer: Milwaukee, from 1933 to 1994. The last game there was a 21-17 win over Atlanta at County Stadium on December 18, 1994.
How much did the plan to renovate Lambeau Field, announced in 2000, cost?
Answer: $295 million. Brown County voters approved a 0.5 percent sales tax to help pay for it, and the redeveloped stadium opened in 2003.
What event drew more than 600,000 fans to Lambeau Field and the Titletown district in April 2025?
Answer: The 2025 NFL Draft, held April 24 to 26. The crowd matched Nashville’s 2019 draft for the second-highest attendance in draft history.
