The Bears come to Lambeau Field on Sunday, and no two teams in the NFL have played each other more. The Packers lead the all-time series 109-98-6. The Bears won the last meeting, 31-27 in the playoffs in Chicago on January 10, 2026, so this one comes with a score to settle.

The Bears get a whole chapter in my book, the All-Time Best Green Bay Packers Trivia Quiz Book, and a few of these stories are questions in it. Here are five things worth knowing before kickoff.

The first meeting was a 20-0 loss to the Staleys

The Packers joined the league in 1921, and on November 27 of that year they played in Chicago for the first time. The home team was still called the Staleys, and they won 20-0. It was the only time Green Bay ever faced them under that name. The Staleys finished that season with the best record in the league, and a year later they were the Bears.

Lambeau Field opened with a win over the Bears

The stadium we now call Lambeau Field opened as City Stadium on September 29, 1957, and the Bears were the first visitors. The Packers won 21-17 in front of a capacity crowd of 32,132. Vice President Richard Nixon dedicated the stadium at halftime, and Bears owner George Halas was up on the platform with him.

The biggest Packers win in the series was 49-0

Vince Lombardi’s Packers beat the Bears 49-0 at home on September 30, 1962. It is still the largest margin of victory Green Bay has ever had against Chicago. The Packers swept the Bears that year, winning 38-7 in Chicago as well, and finished the season as NFL champions.

The 2010 NFC title game sent the Packers to the Super Bowl

The Bears and Packers had met in the playoffs only once before, a 33-14 Bears win in 1941. The second time came on January 23, 2011, at Soldier Field, with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. Green Bay led 14-0 at halftime, and in the fourth quarter defensive tackle B. J. Raji intercepted a pass and ran it 18 yards for a touchdown. The Packers held on to win 21-14, then beat the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV two weeks later.

Fourth and 8 won the division in 2013

Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone against the Bears in Green Bay earlier in the 2013 season and missed seven weeks. He came back for the last game of the season, at Soldier Field on December 29, with the NFC North on the line. Down 28-27 in the final minute, facing fourth and 8, he found Randall Cobb, also back from a broken leg, for a 48-yard touchdown. The Packers won 33-28 and took the division.

That’s the story behind Sunday’s matchup. You can find every Packers vs Bears game on the team page, and the site’s trivia quizzes are at the trivia hub.

My Packers trivia book has more Bears questions, like what call replay overturned in the 1989 Instant Replay Game and how long Robert Brooks’ touchdown catch against Chicago was in 1995. Every answer comes with the story behind it, in paperback and Kindle on Amazon.
