Sunday brings the Jets back to Lambeau Field, and this series has more history packed into it than most fans remember. The Packers and Jets have only played fourteen times since 1973, so every game in this series tends to stick out. Green Bay trails 5-9 in the all-time record, but a few of those fourteen games rank among the wildest in team history. Here are five things worth knowing before kickoff.

The Packers won a shootout in 2018, 44-38 in overtime

The Jets led 35-20 in the fourth quarter on December 23, 2018, at MetLife Stadium. Green Bay scored 18 points in the last twelve minutes, the last of them on an Aaron Rodgers sneak and a two-point run, to go up 38-35. The Jets kicked a field goal with 21 seconds left to tie it, and Rodgers hit Davante Adams for a 16-yard touchdown in overtime to win it, 44-38. Rodgers threw for 442 yards that day.

The Packers shut out the Jets 9-0 in 2010

Green Bay beat the Jets 9-0 on the road on October 31, 2010. It came in the middle of the season that ended with the Packers winning Super Bowl XLV. A 9-0 final score is rare in today’s NFL, especially on the road in late October.

The Jets won the last meeting, 27-10 at Lambeau

The two teams last played on October 16, 2022, at Lambeau Field, and the Jets won 27-10. That loss is still the most recent chapter in the series. Packers fans heading into Sunday will want a different result this time.

The first meeting was in 1973, a 23-7 Packers win

The Packers and Jets first played each other on September 17, 1973, and Green Bay won 23-7. That’s more than 50 years of history between two teams that rarely cross paths outside the regular schedule, since they sit in different conferences.

Ron Wolf wanted Favre for the Jets before he wanted him for the Packers

Ron Wolf worked in the Jets front office in 1991, and he wanted to draft a young quarterback named Brett Favre. He never got the chance to do it there. Wolf left for Green Bay and became the Packers general manager, and in 1992 he traded for Favre and brought him to Green Bay instead. It turned into one of the best trades in franchise history, and it started with a team Green Bay barely ever plays.

That’s the story behind Sunday’s matchup, and there’s more where that came from. You can find every Packers vs Jets game on the team page. The site’s trivia quizzes are at the trivia hub.
